DisArt’s Creative Director Le’Andra LeSeur presented at the Upswell Conference in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas on November 16, 2023. Le’Andra’s presentation centered the power of art to ‘disrupt’ and push for communal change that cultivates belonging and a more accessible and inclusive future. This opportunity which was funded in part by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council Professional Development Minigrant supports Le’Andra’s professional development as a thought leader and provides key networking opportunities for the organization.
The conference provided Le’Andra the opportunity to actively engage in one-on-one conversations and group “spark talks” that helped her question and evaluate how our organization is engaging with the community. Discussion centered on how DisArt is currently engaging our audience and the types of questions we must ask ourselves in order to achieve our goal of continuous improvement and widespread engagement.
As such, the DisArt team is critically evaluating our commitments to access. In 2024 we will be focusing on brand and impact awareness, website accessibility, outreach beyond digital channels, and the importance of balancing both in person and virtual engagement opportunities.
