Awareness is the beginning.

Understanding is the journey.

Belonging is the goal.

Throughout this past year we have witnessed the transformative nature of isability arts and culture.

We are excited to have reached a moment of clarity in the growth and direction of our organization. Over the past 5 years, DisArt has created ripples of impact through high-level Disability Art exhibitions and productions and a commitment to making systematic changes in the ways organizations, galleries, businesses account for the disability community. We want disabled people to know that their participation is both expected and wanted and that their voice is important.

2020 will be an important year for DisArt and the disability cultural movement. As we continue to chart positive changes in our own city, we are excited to expand our work on the national and international level.

We are continuing to our focus on the emerging importance of intersectionality, the complexity of each person’s lived experience of disability and a celebration of disability identity.

We are committed to the sustainability of our organization and are focused on increasing earned revenue through our DisCourse platform, recruiting, diversifying, and developing our board of directors, strengthening partnerships and networks across the globe, and promoting and producing high-quality disability art.

The success of these efforts depends on community input and support. We are grateful for those who have chosen to walk/roll alongside us in this work and hope that you will join us in our efforts to continually raise the visibility, voice, and value of disabled people through art and conversation.

In solidarity,

Jill and Chris
