DisArt was honored with the 2019 Changing Expectations Award

“Through our annual awards program, AMM (Association of Midwest Museums) recognizes individuals, museums and companies that have had an impact on the Midwest museum community or advanced the field in some way. In the spirit of the 2019 Joint Conference theme, the AMM Awards Committee has decided to extend a special award to a Michigan-based organization that is changing expectations in their hometown particularly in the areas of diversity and inclusion.

Through collaborative projects with artists, museums, and other cultural organizations in Grand Rapids, DisArt has set the standard for inclusive practices. The Committee is impressed by DisArt’s transformative work in the city through thought-provoking exhibits and events such as Process and Presence: Fashion Show and the upcoming installation at the Tanglefoot Building during Project 1 by ArtPrize. DisArt has also had a positive impact on the local arts community by working in collaboration with museums such as Grand Rapids Public Museum, Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, and Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Your work has been an inspiration to all of us at AMM!

DisArt Board Member Kate Wolters accepted this award on behalf of the organization.
