Grand Rapids Virtual Festival of the Arts

The Arts Working Group of Grand Rapids is committed to making the experience of art, in all its forms, accessible and inviting for a diverse audience. This commitment, which has been initiated and led by DisArt, has influenced all of the production efforts being put into the Virtual Arts Festival.

The My Dearest Friends Project features candid illustrations by artist Oaklee Thiele paired with DisTopia podcast audio recordings and interviews to capture, archive and share stories submitted by the Disabled community living through the COVID-19 pandemic.


Voices Unicorn Featured

The impact of the exhibition Voices is connected to its ability to offer narratives of disability that are rarely heard. The stories of powerful self advocates are the heartbeat of this immersive exhibition and act as an invitation to those who are on their own journey of self-discovery about what it means to be a Disabled.

Disability Drag Show

DisArt produced the North American premier for the groundbreaking dance troupe Drag Syndrome. Our experiences with Drag Syndrome in September 2019, the Disability Drag Show, and the culture/political conversation that ensued via national media, points to the cultural and political significance of these artists.
